The Prophecies

The Prophecies is the collective term for a number of prophetic visions of the future which apparently map out the path of those in Brighton Below.

They are believed to have originated from a number of sources, and indeed it is thought that the Druidic Prophecies are still being uttered. It seems that these are scattered all over Brighton Below, some in the hands of collectors, many still yet to be found

The Dial Prophecies

The Dials were a wealthy family who lived in Brighton Below during the reign of King Alfred. Shortly before the Kings death, Lord and Lady Dial were murdered in their beds by an unknown assassin. It is believed that they were going to be named as one of the four Noble Households, and hence they were killed.

The Dials had seven children, the youngest of which spoke prophecies and omens of things that have been and things to come. Some of these were recorded, some were lost, and some were simply forgotten. The child predicted events of the future, and could uncover details of the events of the past.

He left Brighton Below some time ago, along with his siblings, still devastated by the death of their parents, and in grief at the fact that he did not foresee their deaths

The Prophecies which have been found relate to a number of events which have occurred already, though some of the others are believed to be events still yet to pass. Some talk of the unification of Brighton Below under a single ruler, and the unification or the World Above and the World Below

Lord Preston is known to be an avid collector of the Dial Prophecies, which always take the form of a seven line verse

The Druidic Prophecies

There was a great sage and Hermetic wizard who lived in Brighton Below. It is believed that he served in the court of King Alfred’s great grandfather long before Brighton Below was established in the form it has today.

The Druid apparently spoke prophecies on a regular basis with chilling accuracy and was accurate in his predictions. However one day he stated that the child in the womb of the Queen was not that of the King, and that the child would grow up to slay him.

The king did not believe the Druid so had him imprisoned, but he could not take the constant nagging doubt of the Druids words, so the king confronted his wife. She confessed to her infidelity, and knowing that one half of the Druids words were true he slew his wife.

The king had the Druid executed also, dragged apart by wild horses so that he could never again speak his prophecies for they brought the king only misery from that day forwards

The Druids body parts were scattered around the city, but it is said that his head did not die, and that it continued to spout prophecies about the future. No-one knows to this day where the head resides, though new prophecies circulate every now and again. It is thought that the Druid still speaks to this day, and an unknown guardian released these details
