Lord Gregory Kemp
Lord Kemp - Head of the Noble House of Kemp and above all, he admires those who can take their drink. He will probably wherever the alcohol is being served, or dice being thrown. He is a very pleasant fellow, but everyone knows that trouble follows the Kemps around like a bad smell and anyone standing near may end up being tarred with the same brush.

Lady Madeleine Palmeira
Lady Palmeira is the head of the Noble House of Palmeira, and is known either as being the most gracious or the most venomous lady in all of Brighton Below. The Palmeira’s all share the same ability to gain someone’s confidences, which has on occasion cost them dearly. Lady Palmeira is known to have a “finger in every pie” and for the right price can often make ones life much easier

Fin Blackthorn
An old Irish mercenary though probably from an older age. Is as loyal to the Kemps as you can get, and is often seen escorting Lord Kemp or young Honey around the Underside. Tough as old boots apparently

Hack
Not a journalist by any standards, the origins of his name are not clear. He seems to spend most of his time sifting through the innumerable amounts of discarded items found down here in the Underside.
Hack is known to be acquainted with Mister and Otto K Pas, perhaps an old friend from forgotten times?

Whitehawk
Whitehawk is a Bravo, and regarded as being one of the foremost combatants in Brighton Below. He held the position of Champion for many years until he retired from fighting in the Circus arena. There are those who say that he has the head of a white feathered eagle. It’s blatantly not true but he enjoys the additional attention it gets him. His name is often used by parents of wayward children in Brighton Below. Many a youngster has been threatened with a visit from Whitehawk if they don’t behave themselves
He is apparently good friends with Booth, and they have been known to sit atop the roof of St Peters watching the sun set

Lady Honey Kemp
Lady Kemp is known to be one of Brighton Belows more outrageous
and...erm...accomodating residents. Like her Uncle Gregory, she prefers the wilder side of life, and her
passion for excesses in all its forms have earned her a reputation as one of the Undersides foremost party girls

Blatchington
Blatchington used to be a poet and lover in the World Above, until his excessive consumption of opium and drinking lead him to Brighton Below. He’s under the impression that he’s died and that this is his Hell or purgatory. How else can he explain why no-one can see him. His old friends and family ignore him when he tries to speak to them. It’s obviously because he’s dead. Everyone else around him who can see him must be a ghost, or demons sent to taunt him. He tends to be a little concerned that he’s trapped in this purgatory, but once you manage to get him off the subject he’s actually a well versed and articulate young man.

Mister
Mister what? Who knows? He appears to be too busy finding out the answers to everyone elses questions to find out the answer to his own. It appears that he was something of a success in the World Above, and no-one is quite sure what drove him to the Underside. He's been here a while though, having spent time in other cities before moving to Brighton Below. He is also reknowned as being something of an artist

Ash
They say that smoking will kill you. Some people never get the message. Ash didn't. Still hasn't now that he's dead. Still with scarring like that, I think we can allow him a cigarette or two. He's in with the Flatlines and  is sworn to House Roe

Fresnel
Fresnel seems to be trapped in a former age. It seems that time, and death for that matter passed him by. He's known for his photography and appreciation for art, so it seems that he seeks to capture beauty in other things. Perhaps he feels that by preserving an image in time that it mimics his own existence?

Booth
Brighton Below’s most famous Bird speaker. Like Old Steine, he is quite often seen at the Market, but he tends to spend the majority of the time on the rooftops of the city tending to lost or injured birds. He is favoured by the Sky Carvers, and considers Lord Peregrine as a personal friend as well as the leader of the avian factions. Lord Peregrine’s normally aggressive manner doesn’t seem to work with Booth. He’s also very good friends with Whitehawk

Lady Isabella Roe
Lady Isabella is the eldest daughter of Lord Roe, and is believed to have been something of a prize. At least until the family were cursed. She has made it known that great riches await anyone who can remove the curse. Her hand in marriage and succession to Lord Severinus perhaps?

Martlet
Theres not a great deal known about Martlet, he keeps himself to himself for the most part, though he's often seem with Drizzle and Tom Bluesman. He's a Craftsman if the rumours are trueThere are rumours about his family but......

Stanmer
A renowned raconteur, dilettante and speaker in the service of the Kemp Household Stammer is often seen in the company of Lord Kemp, drinking and telling tales of when Brighton Below was more popular than Brighton Above. Lord Kemp keeps Stanmer close by, as been known to talk Lord Kemp out of trouble on more than one occasion, or at least calm those that wish to kill in to allow their escape

The Dials
The Dial family were one of the most respected families in the time of King Alfred. They were famed also for their seven children. There are stories that they each were blessed with their own gifts, the youngest being renowned as the creator of the Dial Prophecies
They each went their own way many years ago after their parents were killed by an unknown assailant. It is said that should they ever re-unite that they had the capability to unite or destroy Brighton Below.

Gold Smid
A craftsman of some repute, his items are somewhat sought after by the residents of the Underside. He normally has a varied and wide ranging stock to sell, and even a few Artefacts. By all accounts he is very close to his mother, who was a fine alchemist and brewer.

Lord Alexander Preston

PRESUMED DECEASED
Lord Preston is the Head of the Noble House of Preston. He normally attend the Markets if only briefly to check on his retinue. Known to be a stickler for honour, tradition and the rules. Even to his own detriment. It is believed that Lord Preston was killed by renegade elements in the Lewes family

Lady Tisbury Preston
Lord and Lady Prestons daughter and probably the most improbable Preston one could imagine. Quietly spoken, shy and some would say a little highly strung, Tisbury manages to further the Houses plans through diplomacy rather than strong words and armed men.

Saint
Saints a birdspeaker amongst other things. He's often seen down at Angel plaza feeding the seagulls. Drives Cavendish mad, trying to clean up the Angel. He's from London apparently, where he was a doctor or something.

Gull
Claiming to be the living embodiment of the gestalt mind of the Imperial Meritocracy of Seagulls, Gull has certainly made an impression on the underside. The Gulls "invasion" of the territories claimed by Lord Peregrine has caused some conflict, and concern for many. His command of the birds has been notable. Undersiders are warned to carry an umbrella if insulting Gull in the open

Yenta Granville
One of the friendliest residents of Brighton Below. Yenta’s stall is not just a place to trade, it’s a place to hang out. For some reason Yenta’s decided to live west of Lady Palmeira’s domain, amongst the Juggs and Fishers. Whilst it means he gets the best “catch of the day”, he risks his life from staying in those areas. He’s a small time trader and information-monger, and makes his own ale apparently

Level Jones
Supposedly the Court Jester for House Kemp, it seems that Level is often confused with being a member of House Roe due to his elaborate facemask. Not sure whether that in itself is meant to be a joke?

Cavendish
Cavendish is the leader of the city’s Statue speakers. He is apparently considered to be Queen Victoria’s most loyal servant and can often be seen by the Dome, conversing with Max Miller who he states is a most fascinating character. Both members of the Stone Court and Bronze Court treat Cavendish with a great deal of respect knowing that he has performed a number of important services for both factions

Hannington

Hannigton is the most successful of the traders at The Floating Market. He quite often takes the finest items from many of the other smaller traders, or offers them a “bulk price”. Then he transfers the items to his stall and sells for a higher price. His suppliers are happy as they sell most of their stock and don't have to carry it home. He is happy because he makes a very tidy profit. This has made him unpopular with some other traders, primarily due to jealousy

Morley
Morely is something of a secretive character, but apparently spend half his time in Lady Kemps gaming rooms, and the other half looking for something or someone. As a youngster he was apparently something of a tearaway though he claims to have put history behind him and is gaining a reputation as one of the Brighton Below's more respectable "citizens"

Grandma
One of Brighton Below's newest additions. No-one knows much about her at all. Apart from her name. Her bags seem to hold a multitude of surprises, clothes, soups, everything an Undersider needs

Hanover
Hanover is the leader of the undead faction called The Flatlines. His is something of a tragic story. Apparently in the early 1900's Hanover was married to a beautiful young woman named Elizabeth who was pregnant with his child. Upon hearing that his wife was about to give birth he rushed home but ran in front of the path of a horse and was trampled. He was killed almost instantly, but it seems that his determination got the better of death and his continued home. Upon reaching the house all could see that Hanover was dead (parts of his head were missing), and he fled. He never got to see his child

Davigdor

Davigdor is Lord Roe’s lieutenant, and is rumoured to be the most powerful of the Mystics in Brighton Below. He too was apparently involved in the plot to kill Lord Preston and his family those many years ago' Davigdor is something of a mystery, though his reputation does proceed him. Those who have crossed him in the past have often ended up dying under mysterious (and quite often horrific) circumstances

Simon Meredith

Simon is one of the Flatlines, and something of a tempestuous character. Might get him into trouble one of these days. He used to havea  life in the World Above apparently.

Victorien Sardou

One half of the famous investigative team of Gerard and Sardou, Victorien still spends time in the Upside. No-ones really sure why he's down here, though rumours say that its to do with a woman. Sworn to the Palmeira Household

Etienne Gerard

The other half of the crime fighting duo of Gerard and Sardou, Etienne is the deal maker and fixer. They continue on their quest to solve crimes in the Underside from their "offices" in Caxton Junction. Etienne is also sworn to the Palmeira Household

Lord Severinus Roe

PRESUMED DECEASED
Lord Severinus is the Head of the Noble House of Roe. He often attends the market, mostly to trade, but in part to charm the ladies (as best as a Roe can) and to exchange harsh words with Lord Preston. Lord Roe has been taking a more gracious stance in this long term feud however

Lord Roe disappeared at about the same time as Lord Alexander Preston. No-one knows of his whereabouts or what heppened to him. The mystics ahve declared him deceased

Law
Law is a most unusual man and many have noted that he has some strange abilities to force the truth from others people. It seems that he has been gifted in this strange manner to ensure that all rules are abided with, laws are kept and that the guilty are brought to justice. Law seems to be a somewhat fitting name all things considered, as he claims to be not human but rather born of Justice herself . Law has been declared the Champion of Brighton Below

Bolt Akura

Bolt is a sworn member of the Preston Household and is often seen at Lady Tisbury's ide. Easily identifiable by his strangely tinted red skin. Generally considered to be a decent enough chap, despite the stories that say his parents were demons.

Otto K Pas
A craftsman of sorts. It seems his speciality is to take the modern and make its the aesthetic, his wares being created by bits of circuits and electronics. With no real purpose in the Underside, his fantastic knick-knacks, jewellery and trinkets were all created by his hands. A regular at the Floating Market

Dawg
Dawg is a somewhat pathetic creature. She seems to be under the impression that she is somehow related to our mans best friend, and her mannerisms and appearance are such that one could almost believe it. Her keenness of smell, and flea problem would also confirm that somewhere along the way, she has become something less than human

Patch Ann
A local Bravo and something of an outsider, but has gained notoriety in Brighton Below from rumours that she has clashed with the Black Lion of Brighton. Considering the Lion killed over two dozen men and women in her time, this is no mean feat to even survive to tell the tale. She lives somewhere north of Lord Preston’s domains in the Downs.

The Druid
Stories tell of a Druid many years ago before the reign of King Alfred who was torn apart by horses as punishment for his prophecies bringing only misery
He body was scattered to the corners of the village. The story states that he survived the execution, or rather his head did, which continued to spout prophecies for a number of decades to come before it went missing. There are new Druidic prophecies appearing all the time though, so it is believed that someone took it and continues to ensure that the Druids words are still heard

The Engineer
The Engineer has been a part of Brighton Below for longer than he or anyone else can remember. A wizened and rather doddery old fellow, but his knowledge of the wizardy of clockwork, mechanics and electrics is legendary. Give him a week and he could make the Titanic work again. The Engineer is merely referred to by his title of The Engineer, not even he can remember his given name

Old Steine
Old Steine is the leader of the Ratspeakers in Brighton Below. He rarely ventures from the sewer areas, preferring the company of Master Threetoes and the other Browncoat rats to that of humans, though is sometimes present at the Floating Market

Mazda
Mazda is a stocky, tattooed man who runs the Circus on behalf of Lord Preston. He’s there to oversee any fighting to ensure that its all above board, those who attempt to influence a fight sometimes find themselves in the ring too. He also runs the betting at the Circus, and is often seen urging the punters into action. Mazda knows a lot of good fighters, and can spot talent when he sees it.

Drizzle
Drizzle is a pretty new member to the Underside. She seems very confused. Luckily shes fallen in with Martlet and Tom Bluesman who seem to be looking after her

Coldean
Coldean is the leader of the Ladies. She keeps her private affairs very close to her chest but all know better than to ask. Even Lady Palmeira doesn't pry into Coldean's past. She is known to be a fearsome warrior, and some claim that she is the re-incarnation of Boudica herself

Lucio Zachary
Lucio is an undead, though in a rather begrudging way. Some Undead are content with their status but Lucio isn't one of them. He's often seen with the other Flatlines

Clara
Clara's undead, but we're not entirely sure if she realises it. About 30 seconds after someone's told her she's dead, she goes and forgets it again. She's in with the Flatlines

Tarquin Galthrie
One half of the Galthrie and Square partnership, Tarquin is generally considered to be scum by the rest of Brighton Below. For various reasons, he's not made himself popular. Welching on deals, sacrificing babies, that sort of thing. Sworn to House Roe

Clayton Square
Clayton is well regarded in the Underside. Well regarded as being on of the most despicable and dishonourable member of it mostly. With his partner in crime, Tarquin Galthrie, they've succeeded in angering, upsetting or fleecing everyone in the Underside. Sworn to House Roe
