The Rotting Dean
The Rotting Dean is part of the lands of Lord Roe, the Blightbearer. The area was originally part of the territory claimed by the Roe family but the Family were cursed by Lord Preston many years ago for trying to overthrow him and making an attempt on his life.
The Preston’s originally kept their curse a secret, so it was thought that the weeping sores and rotting appearance was caused by a disease. All those in Lord Roe’s lands were quarantined in a small area of his lands which soon became known as the Rotting Dean, and suffered greatly as a result. It was only when Lord Preston’s curse was revealed 7 years later that the quarantine was lifted, and the members of the Roe Household were permitted to return to Brighton Below.
The Rotting Dean is now a particularly lavish area of Lord Roe’s lands, though it has kept its name. Law and order is preserved here more than anywhere else, as this area has been appointed to the care of Davigdor; Lord Roe’s right-hand man.

Preston Circus
Not the sort of show that most people would want to go and see; The Circus is more an amphitheatre rather than any spectacle, where the Bravo’s of Brighton Below come to show their prowess. More often than not, this turns into a bloodbath. Whilst the Circus is often connected to the Floating Market it is not bound by the condition of non-violence and those who enter the arena do so at their own risk. The Circus is the place where disagreements are settled with action rather than words
The Circus is run by Mazda, a particularly vicious and tough little man who works for Lord Preston. Mazda is very professional about his business dealing though, and those who have attempted to bribe or influence the result of a fight have often found themselves in the ring themselves

The Black Rock
A large rock up on a hill which is believed to be a altar of some description. Only the Juggs seem to understand its true purpose, but it is thought that they wives of the old fishermen would place offerings to the sea here to ensure the safe return of their husbands. Otherwise it is merely a large polished black rock

The Gold Stone
A large, slightly golden coloured rock which is considered to be the “sister” to the Black Rock. No-one really understands its true purpose or origins. It is believed to have been used as the headstone of Bjorn, the first “ruler” or Brighton Below. Most people consider this to be merely mythology, but none the less the stone is quite interesting to look at. The Undead within Brighton Below seem to find the stone particularly attractive though none have every adequately explained why

The Boundary Road
The Boundary Road is the line which marks the border between Lady Palmeira’s domain and that of “No Man’s Land”. The boundary crept back from the original mark at Fisher’s Gate during the late Lord Palmeira’s rule but since Lady Palmeira succeeded him she has reclaimed many sections that were lost. The Boundary Road is still considered the last point at which Undersiders will (probably) never encounter a Fisher, or any of their traps

Fisher’s Gate
The Fishers gate is a large doorway that leads down steps to deeper levels of Brighton Below. This is believed to be where the Fishers come from. Some say that the doorway is an entrance to Hell itself and that the Fishers are demons here to cast their lines for the souls of men. Others just believe that it’s merely an entrance to some forgotten level of the Underside. All agree however that the screams which are heard coming from there tell them not to enter as the Fisher’s Gate only leads to something very, very unpleasant

The Red Hill
An area not frequented by anyone who has any sense. The Red Hill was the site of a former battle between King Alfred and Lord Lewes. The blood from those who were killed is said to have stained the lands and will never dry up; merely dig below the topsoil and you will find of blood soaked clay. There are known to be spirits that haunt this place, malevolent spirits believed to be the souls of Lord Lewes’ men, still calling for revenge. The Red Hill is best left alone

The Mile Oak
The Mile Oak is a large tree which marks the centre of the territory known as The Mile. The Mile is populated primarily by the Ladies, and male trespassers may find that they receive something of a hostile welcome. Some say that the Druid was hung from the tree before his body was torn apart

The Embassy Court
The homestead of the Skycarvers, Brighton Below’s Bird Faction. Lord Peregrine holds court from the Upper Penthouse (also known as the roof) of the building. He is guarded by a number of large birds of prey and gulls which can fend off even the largest attackers

The Devil’s Dyke
The legend in Brighton above talks about the Devil being so displeased with the peity of the residents of the local area decided to dig a trenchway to try to flood the villages and destroy their churches. He was disturbed part of the way through by a peasant woman carrying a candle believing it to be the rising sun. He fled without ever managing to finish his work. This is not exactly the way it happened
The devil in question was a particularly unscrupulous Bravo by the name of Sydney Cobden who was attempting to destroy Brighton Below in its entirety. Running beneath the chalk hills of the Downs were a series of natural caves, through which Cobden was bringing large amounts of gunpowder. His intention was to set the explosives in various places around the city. Brighton Above would be destroyed, as would Brighton Below
Unfortunately Cobden was disturbed, not by a peasant woman but by smugglers bringing sheep through the tunnels to the coast. Upon seeing them approach Cobden hid, leaving the explosives where they stood in the centre of the passage. The smugglers not realizing what was in front of them brought their lamps closer to read the markings on the crates……
The resulting explosion caused a collapse of the tunnel, and a great rift in the land above
The confession was made by an accomplice of Cobden just before he was made to eat his own intestines
